Australia Queensland - Laid back & Sunkissed
Not surprisingly, all Queensland's favourite foodstuffs are locally caught or
grown: seafood, steaks from beef cattle reared on the rolling plains beyond the
Great Dividing Range and a veritable salad of tropical fruit and vegetables
grown in local orchards and market gardens. Brisbane specialities include the
Moreton Bay Bug (a kind of lobster), the gigantic Queensland Mud Crab, king and
tiger prawns, barramundi and mackerel. To nibble between meals there is the
famous macadamia nut, harvested from the only native Australian plant to have
been developed as a commercial crop. Brisbane's Chinatown, north of the city
centre, adds another dimension to the eating possibilities.
