Southern Reef Islands
Located south of the Whitsunday’s and easily accessible from the mainland,
each offers a different
island experience. Heron Island is one of the most popular and famous diving
locations on the reef and is home to a sanctuary of birds and turtles. It is
located off the coast of Gladstone. Wilson Island is a remote coral cay eight
nautical miles from Heron. It is essentially natural, a divine sweep of caster
sugar sands and home to turtles and birds.

Containing 74 spectacular islands and surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef, the
Whitsunday Islands offer something for everyone. Several of the islands are
resort islands and these are easily accessible from the mainland and Hamilton
